A sexologist is someone who solves complicated sexual health problems. These guys are usually highly trained qualified doctors, psychologists or counselors.
“Psycho-sexual counselling is the ART of Sex therapy”
Most people opt for psycho-sexual therapy to deal with sex related issues at some point in their life. Sexual health problems are frequently very distressing in nature and cause a lot of unhappiness and distress in general.
When these problems are not discussed, misunderstanding and resentment in the relationship only compound. A large majority of people usually find it difficult to discuss problems related to sexual intercourse. They frequently ignore it…on purpose.
Psycho-sexual therapy combined with counselling can sort out a myriad of sex related issues. These issues include
- Lack of sexual interest
- Low sex drive
- Erectile dysfunction
- Premature Ejaculation
- Anejaculation (No ejaculation)
- Lack of sexual interest
- Pain during intercourse
- Lack of arousal and
- Difficulties in achieving an orgasm
Psychosexual therapy done properly and consistently can also address and resolve other relationship conflicts resulting from mismatched sexual expectations.
Psychosexual therapy aims at providing couples with a broader understanding of human sex & sexuality. Sex education in itself is an exceedingly powerful tool and can sometimes resolve complicated sex-based problems.
What happens during a sex therapy session?
The sexologist will patiently listen to all your problems. A well-trained sexologist is attuned to listening to you patiently rather than forming premature judgements about your condition. Most sessions involve patient listening of the problem from your side and your partner.
After the preliminary session, an in-depth clinical and psychosexual history is normally taken by the sexologist. This history combined with your description of the problem will help dedifferentiate whether the problem is purely psychological, organic or a combination of both.
Once a better understanding of the issue is formulated, you will be a combination of exercises and tasks that you should actively try over the next few weeks.
Typically a single session may last anywhere between 30 to 45 minutes on average. Depending on the complexity of the condition, the session may also be repetitive.
Psychosexual therapy is well validated and well-established treatment strategy for a variety of complex sexual health problems. Remember to put your faith in your doctor and also remember that you should never conceal or hide facts during sessions.
Speak your mind out and be frank about your feelings. Although this takes a bit of practice, it tests your ability to trust your treatment provider as well.
